Mayoral Visit at RLMI’s Youth Excel

Bright eyes, smiles, and lots of energy awaited volunteers at Redeeming Life Ministries International last Friday, July 22nd as youth and guests entered the building at 9:00 a.m. for the 2017 Youth excel.  If you’ve never heard of the youth excel it’s a fun-filled, jam packed day of youth only activities, sessions and inspirational messages with kids in mind.  The annual gathering hosts children ages 5 – 16 in a special way to excite youth about serving God and their communities with gladness.   “We are always excited to host our youth for the annual excel.  We hope each child leaves with memories and an experience that will live in their hearts and minds for years to come” says DeShawn Salley Redeeming Life’s Youth Director and life-long educator who oversees the festivities.

Attendees were greeted by special guest speaker, Brandon Paulin, Mayor of Indian Head Maryland.  Making headlines in 2015 at the age of 19 as Maryland’s youngest elected official, Mayor Paulin spoke to youth about his journey into public service.  He inspired youth to see opportunity at every age and level to make an impact within their communities, simply put Mayor Paulin advises “For those of you who think you’re too young to do something, don’t – that’s just an excuse”.   The session concluded with a brief Q & A with Mayor Paulin where he candidly spoke to youth and answered questions from the eager young minds around the room.   A ‘wow-factor’ was experienced by all and great appreciation is extended to Mayor Paulin and RLMI volunteers who made this year’s youth excel an experience of a lifetime.

All smiles after an inspirational chat with Mayor Paulin at the 2017 Youth Excel.
